Skylight Domes for BGC

BGC building roof fit out on 28 The Esplanade, Perth.

BCJ Plastic Products received a request from BGC Building and Construction to manufacture 115 Shinkolite 6mm Acrylic Grey domes.

These domes were to be produced from 2.4 x 2.4m sheets, all uniform in height, presenting a challenging task. The purpose of this project was to replace existing domes that had been in use for 35 years.

The Shinkolite material, sourced from Japan and transported in a container, was chosen for its superior thermoforming capabilities compared to traditional glass cell cast sheets. This characteristic allows for more intricate detailing during the molding process within a shorter cycle time. With a light transmission of approximately 15% and a heat cut ratio nearing 58%, Shinkolite proved to be an ideal choice for this project, as evidenced by the installed skylight domes showcased in the accompanying photos.

Laboratory tests demonstrated a notable temperature decrease of around 10 degrees Celsius at 45 degrees Celsius when using this particular material. Additionally, Shinkolite exhibited excellent weather resistance, displaying minimal discoloration and strength reduction from prolonged exposure to sunlight, wind, and adverse weather conditions.
